A life lesson, courtesy of the Justice Society and Bahlactus:
So, remember, kiddies, taking pride in your new found powers make cause your teammate to be knocked unconscious.
And also remember, Always Bet on Bahlactus.
...or why I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Geoff Johns.
And, when Bahlactus talks, everyone listens.
So, this week's FNF comes with a history lesson. Just imagine you are watching a fight on ESPN Classic instead of ESPN 2.
The main action comes for Avengers Vol. 3 No. 57 (472), cover dated October 2002, which was the first issue of Geoff Johns' run on the title :
Pretty good one-two punch Vision and Captain America's shield laid on bad old Mr. Hyde (who, in bonus awesomeness was on FIRE at the time.). But I want to bring your attention to a panel, and one piece of dialogue in said panel, that made me squeal with glee!:
The crappy yellow highlighting job is all me.
So, what about this particular piece of dialougue made me squeal like a little girl? Because it reference this scene that took place over 15 years earlier in Avengers Vol. 1, No. 275, cover dated January 1987:
And remember it he did!
Yeah, I had my geeky fanboy moment there. I remember the later scene from the halcyon days of my youth. The fact the Johns would toss in a little throw away line referencing that scene, and in a kick-ass context to boot, made me swoon over him as a writer.
Always remember, when it comes to being schooled, Always Bet on Bahlactus.
The way Bahlactus wants it, is the way Bahlactus gets it.
Which is harder? Stone statue or diamond hard synthezoid?
From Avengers 157 (One of the first comics I ever bought. Don't worry, the Black Knight gets better!)
Uh, that would be the diamond hard synthezoid, or, as the Avengers like to call him, the Vision!
But none can compare to Bahlactus!
As Bahlactus commands:
Being a talk show host in the rough and tumble world of New York City is not easy. Danger lies in every story, death comes with every guest. To succeed, you must do one thing. You must always keep at least one oversized doorknob behind your desk at all times.
Taken from the now-legendary Avengers #239. Assistant Editor's Month at its finest.
Oh, and there is another thing you must always do: Always Bet on Bahlactus!
You know what? I really don't want to mess with the Goon:
I bet that cold, hard concrete felt like sweet relief after facing the Goon's fists!
Remember, in this world, there are winners, there are losers, and then there's Bahlactus. Always bet on Bahlactus.
